WORK AT ZELQOR
We're a small senior studio in Sydney working worldwide.
We hire slowly, and we hire for judgement — portfolios matter, but so does how you think in a critique.
HOW THE PRACTICE WORKS
ONE TEAM
No account managers, no handoffs. The people who pitch the work are the people who do it. Every project has a named lead who owns it.
WEEKLY VISIBILITY
Every active project is reviewed internally each week. Nothing ships without a second set of senior eyes. Critique is part of the process, not an interruption to it.
SENIOR HANDS
We don't staff projects with juniors and supervise from a distance. If you join ZELQOR, you're doing the work — not managing people doing the work.
REMOTE-NATIVE
The studio operates asynchronously by default. We meet when it matters and write when it doesn't. Good writing is a core skill here, not a nice-to-have.
THE LAB
Between client projects, we run self-initiated experiments. They ship to /experiments. Lab time is protected — it's how we stay technically current and intellectually honest.
WHAT WE VALUE
CRAFT YOU CAN DEFEND
Every decision should have a reason. Not a rationalisation after the fact — a reason that existed before the cursor moved. We value designers who can explain their work without apologising for it.
WRITING AS THINKING
If you can't write it clearly, you haven't thought it clearly. We write briefs, rationale, critique notes, and Field Notes essays. Writing is how we think, not just how we communicate.
SMALL TEAMS, REAL OWNERSHIP
We keep teams small so ownership is real. You're not a contributor to someone else's project — you're the person responsible for it. That's harder and better.
HONESTY OVER POLISH
We'd rather tell a client something difficult than present something comfortable. The same applies internally. Critique is a form of respect — it means we take the work seriously.
CURRENT OPENINGS
NO OPEN ROLES RIGHT NOW.
We hire slowly and announce openings here first.
